AVSE’S In-class TEFL course in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Phnom Penh comes with complimentary accommodation for 26 nights. Students who are enrolled in our Virtual or Self-paced TESOL programme can access AVSE accommodation as an optional extra (fee involved).
Our accommodation options in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Phnom Penh are all located within a 5 to 10-minute walk of the training centre. The accommodation comes in three forms: 1. residential properties owned by AVSE-TESOL; 2. local hotels; and 3. local guest houses. Accommodation that’s provided by AVSE is representative of what you will find in a developing country.
Each trainee is allocated a furnished bedroom and a private bathroom. In some instances the private bathroom might be immediately outside the bedroom, rather than being a full ensuite. It’s the ‘luck of the draw’. The facilities and fixtures in each bedroom typically include: air conditioning, WIFI, a double bed, a wardrobe, desk and chair. Cooking facilities are available in residential properties owned by AVSE-TESOL, but not in the hotels and guest houses. Having said this, local street food is cheap, abundant and right up there with the best you’ll find in Southeast Asia. Laundry facilities are readily available regardless of where you stay.
When you join the AVSE TEFL course in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City or Phnom Penh you’ll receive complimentary accommodation as described above, unless you choose to exclude housing from your TESOL package. Let’s look at this in more detail, city by city.
During the TEFL course in Hanoi, you’ll stay in a local guest house just around the corner from the training centre. It literally takes no more than 5 minutes to walk from the guest house to where the TEFL course in Hanoi takes place. You will need to cross two local roads, but neither is especially busy. The terrain is relatively flat. All rooms at the guest house in Hanoi are comfortable, well-decorated and they have lots of natural light. Each bedroom has an ensuite bathroom. The guest house has a terrific rooftop terrace where you can relax at the end of the day with a quiet beer or your drink of choice. The terrace offers a lovely view of the local neighbourhood and is a great spot for ‘people watching’. No matter where you are in Vietnam, there’s always something interesting to see.
Check out the short video below. It shows the type of accommodation you can expect if you choose to: 1. do AVSE’s In-class TEFL course in Hanoi; or 2. book accommodation in Hanoi as an optional extra with AVSE’s Virtual or Self-paced TESOL programme.
Ho Chi Minh City
The AVSE training centre in Ho Chi Minh City is located in the Go Vap District, around 40 minutes by taxi, motorbike or bus from the downtown area. AVSE has 3 accommodation options in Ho Chi Minh City – our own residential properties (shared houses), hotels and guest houses. All options are within a 10 minute walk of the training centre and in the same neighbourhood. The accommodation is surrounded by local families going about everyday life and small, one or two person shops and food stalls selling everything you could possibly need. The local terrain is flat and therefore prone to flooding during the wet season. The good news is, as quickly as it floods, the water dissipates and within 15 minutes or so after the downpour stops, life gets back to normal. Regardless of whether you stay in one of AVSE’s own residential properties, a local hotel or a guest house, while doing the TEFL course in Ho Chi Minh City, all rooms are comfortable and contain the key necessities: decent air-conditioning, a clean bed, a wardrobe, a desk, a chair and a private bathroom.
Have a look at the video below. It provides insight to AVSE’s housing options in Ho Chi Minh City for students enrolled in the In-class TEFL course. The same accommodation is available as an optional extra to students who are enrolled in a Virtual or Self-paced TESOL programme at AVSE.
Our Phnom Penh TEFL students stay in a guest house located within a 5-minute walk of the training centre. The guest house is surrounded by banks, restaurants, bars, laundry services, phone shops and other small, family-owned businesses selling everything that mankind has ever wanted or needed. In many ways, Phnom Penh is like one big marketplace, even though the city is substantially smaller than AVSE’s two other TEFL destinations, Hanoi and Hoi Chi Minh City. The popular Riverside precinct with an array of restaurants, bars, coffee shops and night-clubs is also within easy walking distance of your accommodation in Phnom Penh.
The guest house in Phnom Penh is clean and comfortable. Rooms contain the important fixtures and fittings including air-conditioning, a decent bed, a desk, a chair and suchlike. You will encounter quite a few stairs at the guest house. Stairs are commonplace in older Khmer buildings. If it happens that stairs are a problem for you, simply let AVSE know before you arrive and we’ll make a plan that meets your needs. There is an open area on the top floor of the guest house which offers a spectacular view of the city. It’s also a pleasant area to for some ‘quiet time’. On the ground floor of the guest house there’s a brilliant ‘people watching’ area while enjoying a Khmer coffee or a cold beer on a balmy Phnom Penh evening. Angkor Draft (beer) comes highly recommended by AVSE alumni!
The video below shows you exactly what to expect with the accommodation that AVSE provides in Phnom Penh for the In-class programme. Accommodation at the same guest house in Phnom Penh is an optional extra with AVSE’s Virtual or Self-paced TESOL programme.
While the accommodation options for AVSE’S In-class TEFL course in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Phnom Penh are all secure, well-lit and located in areas that are known for being safe, like anywhere else in the world it pays to be vigilant. Basic safety measures include: 1. being accompanied by a classmate when you go out at night; 2. avoid using your cell-phone when walking or standing in the street; and 3. if you must carry a bag, ensure it has a long strap so you can place it across your body rather than just over one shoulder.
