AVSE’s TEFL course in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Phnom Penh comes with complimentary accommodation (26 nights) located within a 5 to 10-minute walk of the training centre. The accommodation comes in three forms: 1. residential properties owned by AVSE-TESOL; 2. local hotels; and 3. local guest houses. All accommodation options are representative of what you will find in a developing country.
Each trainee is allocated a furnished bedroom and a private bathroom. In some instances the private bathroom might be immediately outside the bedroom, rather than being a full ensuite. It’s the ‘luck of the draw’. The facilities and fixtures in each bedroom typically include: air conditioning, WIFI, a double bed, a wardrobe, desk and chair. Cooking facilities are available in residential properties owned by AVSE-TESOL, but not in the hotels and guest houses. Having said this, local street food is cheap, abundant and right up there with the best you’ll find in Southeast Asia. Laundry facilities are readily available regardless of where you stay.
When you join a TEFL course in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City or Phnom Penh at AVSE you get complimentary accommodation as described above. However, let’s look at this in more detail, city by city.
In Hanoi, your accommodation will be in a local guest house just around the corner from your classroom. The rooms are comfortable and well decorated with modern bathroom facilities, lots of natural light, a balcony to sit out in the warm evenings and the views from the roof terrace are excellent. This will be your home away from home while you study with us in Hanoi. Here’s a link to a video showing the type of accommodation you can expect.
In Ho Chi Minh City we are located in the Go Vap District around 40 minutes from downtown. Here accommodation will be in one of our own residential properties or hotels and guest houses located in the immediate neighbourhood, surrounded by local families going about their everyday business. Your private room with bathroom is comfortable and has everything you’ll need while you study with us. Here’s a link to a video showing the type of accommodation you can expect in Ho Chi Minh City.
In Phnom Penh, accommodation is in a guest house in the famous Riverside precinct of the city. The facilities are comfortable and give you everything you will need. Stairs are more common than lifts in Phnom Penh guest houses but will help keep you fit. The views from the top floor across the city are excellent and there is a delightful area outside for a coffee or a cold beer – Angkor Draft comes highly recommended by AVSE alumni! AVSE’s guest house in Phnom Penh is close to banks, restaurants, bars and laundries so you will have everything you’ll need within easy walking distance. While AVSE’s accommodation options in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Phnom Penh are all secure, well-lit and located in areas that are known for being safe, like anywhere else in the world it pays to be vigilant. Basic safety measures include: 1. being accompanied by a classmate when you go out at night; 2. avoid using your cell-phone when walking or standing in the street; and 3. if you must carry a bag, ensure it has a long strap so you can place it across your body rather than just over one shoulder.
If you have a preference to be placed in one of our residential properties, in a hotel or a guest house, you should advise the Course Coordinator a minimum of 10 days before your arrival. In the event you do not require AVSE-TESOL to provide accommodation for the period of your TESOL /TEFL course, you may be entitled to a fee reduction.
Most importantly, embrace the experience and enjoy your TEFL course in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City or Phnom Penh!
